Theatrical Dagger
We were asked to produce a dagger that would “squirt” blood as a theatrical prop. The armourer who provides weaponry for TV, film and theatre required the dagger to have a period look, to have a “safe” blade and would squirt fake blood from its tip when a plunger was pushed by the actor.
We fabricated the knife from brass, stainless steel and wood, making the plunger mechanism part of the handle. The blade was made in two parts from laser cut stainless steel and welded together to give the appearance of being solid and sharp but hollow to deliver the “blood” to the tip.
Although the mechanism took some time to get right it was one of the more fun pieces we have yet to make.
