4 Pan Traditional Island Range

We were recently happy to win the order for a new fish and chip frying range from John and Gina Ramsden of Cairns in Northern Queensland, Australia.

The Ramsdens had moved out to Australia a number of years ago with semi-retirement in mind but ended up opening a take-away and subsequently a fish and chip shop in Cairns. Using only deep fat fryers, which is the only type of equipment readily available out there, John won the “Best Fish And Chips In Cairns Award” which was unsurprising as he had run a “proper” fish and chip shop in Yorkshire for many years!

As business increased rapidly, John and Gina decided that the only way to keep up with demand was to obtain a Fish and Chip frying range and looked into ways to achieve this.

After several months of discussion with the local authorities together with information from us provided after exhaustive research into Australian rules and regulations, permission was granted to install the equipment and Kohn and Gina duly placed the order with Hopkins.

The equipment was shipped to Australia via container along with a huge amount of dry goods, soft drinks, condiments and packaging, and arrived in Cairns six weeks after departure from the UK, arriving in December 2010.

A special side loading truck delivered the container to site and then I and Robin, one of our most experienced engineers installed the range - which was no mean feat as it was tropical mid-summer and 95 degrees in the shade with 100% humidity!

The installation was however completed in double quick time and the fish and chip shop equipment was ready for use the next day.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ramsden’s firstly for their order and also for their kind hospitality whilst we were there, we even had use of their old “Ute” which was great!!
